BitTorrent Makes Me Happy
Posted August 26th, 2005 by AdministratorI have historically had a soft spot for most things science fiction. The most recent manifestation of this quirk has come in the form of Battlestar Galactica – the king of Sci Fi Friday on the Sci Fi Channel. Before you snicker and turn your nose up at the thought of another sci-fi show please allow some time to actually get to know this powerful drama. It’s less a sci-fi show than it is a really compelling drama that happens to take place in a sci-fi setting. And that’s what lets it be great — the technology doesn’t guide the story, the characters do.
To start the list of accolades, Time Magazine named it one of the best dramas on television in its April 4, 2005 issue. In addition, Battlestar Galactica won the Hugo Award for best dramatic presentation, short form, for its first-season premiere, “33.” Named for legendary magazine editor Hugo Gernsback, the Hugo Awards are the leading fan-selected awards for excellence in the field of science fiction and fantasy and are awarded each year by the World Science Fiction Society at the World Science Fiction Convention. I implore you, take a look at the show. It airs Friday nights at 9:00 CST.
Now, to come full circle on the title of this posting: BitTorrent has allowed me to download the entire Battlestar Balactica mini series from 2003 as well as Season 1 from 2004. That’s right, all 5.8 GB of video are sitting happinly on my PowerBook’s hard drive. I will probably burn them to CD in a few days, but we’ll have to see. So, thank you BItTorrent for allowing me to watch one of the best dramas on television any time I want!!!
